Coffee Shop Enjoys Revitalization
Volcano’s Coffee is one of several café franchises in an already saturated market. A desire was expressed to figure out how to better target its existing clientele and draw new patrons. This led R3M1X3D to formulate a 3-point strategy, which employed a handful of marketing tactics.
The agency began by changing their interior layout to better suit traffic flow and meeting spaces, creating a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere. To heighten product awareness, we wrote an attention-grabbing messaging campaign—well-targeted at the young urban professionals working and living nearby. A complementing set of images was incorporated with custom food photography and styling presented in a highly polished fashion.
The first set of deliverables was a trio of point-of-sale signage, placed immediately above the refrigerated case adjacent to the cashier’s counter. Shortly thereafter, double-sided clings were placed on the shop’s windows, displaying similarly tantalizing messaging and imagery to patrons and passers-by.
The store’s proprietor, Bill Orth, said “After putting up just a fraction of the in-store signage R3M1X3D suggested, we saw immediately noticeable results.” The first month alone showed a 26% increase in revenue, as well as a matching increase in customers over the previous year.
A Historic Film Makes History
Miss Julianne is a short film based on August Strindberg’s theatrical production “Miss Julie”. Set in the mid-19th Century, this piece highlights contemporary issues in a historical setting. R3M1X3D was engaged to develop an identity to echo the film’s rich cinematography, while juxtaposing period imagery with a modern twist.
The key purposes of the deliverables produced was to elevate the production to garner support from investors and gain entry into world-renowned film festivals.
Within months of its release, it acquired a significant amount of capital, acclaim from noteworthy film critics and was complimented with one of the greatest honors to be bestowed upon a short film: exhibition at the 2008 Festival de Cannes.
When asked for his opinion of the collective’s work, the film’s producer, Daniel E. Springen offers this insight. “R3M1X3D gave us amazing designs for our web site and movie collateral that put us on par with the other films we showed alongside at Cannes. True craftsmen!”
Downtown Orlando’s Oldest Restaurant Maximizes Experience & Margins
As the oldest restaurant in downtown Orlando, Crooked Bayou lacked a connective visual language and market appeal necessary to maintain its success in the thematic restaurant & bar arena. Moreover, they needed a strategy to boost margins without significantly adjusting their prices.
R3M1X3D proposed developing a strongly themed menu to tie in with the overall restaurant experience. We also identified the need for improved usability, taking into account the restaurant’s dimly lit environment.
R3M1X3D established a brand identity, rich with textures of wood and metal. The chosen typography reinforced the aged and authentic feel of the bayou, while maintaining a connection to contemporary nightlife. To address the legibility concerns, we opted to use dark backgrounds, overlaid with white type or cut-out type encapsulated in a lightly colored elements emulating corrugated metal.
In order to enhance profitability, the menu was organized to feature items that yielded higher margins. This was accomplished in three ways: establishing a visual hierarchy, arranging product listings designed to psychologically predict user selections, and by including descriptions that incorporated emotive adjectives.
The menus were well-received by their existing patrons and new customers alike. Not only has the design enhanced their image, it has played an instrumental role in increasing their numbers.
Bringing Centuries-old Traditions to the 21st Century
Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival has been the premier food and wine festival for more than a decade. It offers its patrons access to international cuisine cooked up by the world’s top culinary artists and to thousands of wines from vineyards from around the globe.
Several years ago, EPCOT contracted the collective to develop an online presence to facilitate registration of chefs and wineries for their 2006 Festival. This past year, we suggested they enhance their web presence and accessibility by providing a one-stop site for Festival information.
This comprehensive web site proved to be a great success with measurable results. Prior to the site receiving any official promotion, it received more than 10,000 pageviews in its first month alone. The primary goal of the web site was to better enable registration of prospective festival chefs and wineries. And, it has. According to site analytics, there have been more online registrations this year than all previous years combined.
R3M1X3D was delighted to get news from the Culinary Program Manager that “The system is looking and working well. [It’s] perfect!”
Pop Lounge Design Brings Film To Life
The feature-length motion picture, The Karaoke King — due to be released nationally in 2012 — embarked on its pre-production journey years prior. Before there was a cast, crew or shot list, there were all the initial components that led up to its making. Among the list of items the production company needed was a visual identity and marketing materials.
With a rough synopsis in-hand, we began articulating a brand language that melded 1950’s kitch with 1980’s Americana. The resulting artwork could be described as “pop lounge”.
According to the film’s director, “[the graphic] design for our feature film, The Karaoke King, became the visual metaphor for my direction of the style and atmosphere of the movie.”
From providing layout design of pro formas to direct mail, and from posters to motion graphics, the collective presented Caius Productions as credible stewards of their investors’ finances, and as a salient production company at film markets. Moreover, the comprehensive package R3M1X3D put together for the film helped complete the list of deliverables necessary to secure distribution.
